City Leaves - Solar Panel

  • Design proposal - 2008
  • architect/s - Marco De Gregorio

The design idea takes its prerogative into a sustainable solution.
Sculptural formed objects in shape of botanically inspired leaves provide and enrich an urban promenade, playing with features like light and shadow.
At the top of each leaves, there are several solar cells which charges the built-in batteries. They power the LEDs in the surface of the pavement to illuminate the square in various ways.
Solar cells provide power through the day, while the rechargeable batteries provide enough light all night.
These energy self-contained streetlights saves energy and reduces the output of carbon emission.
